First, I want to congratulate Patti Smith for her induction into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. It’s good to see someone of her stature get into the Hall while she’s still alive to enjoy it. The punk poet laureate can not only spin a web with words, she can sing a mean rock song. Having seen her via Internet on closing night CBGB, I can vouch for her Rock ‘n Roll credibility.

But what does she have to do with this blog? Plenty!

Patti Smith is the kind of voice that this time needs. She’s sensitive, but tough. But most of all, age has only made her a wiser but also more dangerous threat to the status quo.

But it’s more than her attitude. Just listen to her music. Go back in the day, and listen to “Piss Factory” and you SMELL that crappy factory. Or how about “Rock ‘n Roll N-r” (get the CD/Album Easter for the full name). Or when she says at the beginning of “Babelogue” (expletives are BLEEP), “I don’t BLEEP much with the past, but I BLEEP plenty with the future!” Or for some contemporary commentary (a 2004 release), “Radio Baghdad” on her Trampin’ CD. Her words are poetry with a razor sharp edge.

The time for this woman is now. We need more Patti Smith and less Joan Baez.

Note: The opinion expressed here is that of One Lone Punk and is not the opinion of American AM, 1490 AM, or any of its sponsors.

Well I like Joan Baez...but then I'm an old fugger. This is Wade, and forgive me for tacking on to this with only remote relevance but I was informed tha my invite has expired so I am hoping this goes through. First this test run to see if it works as I do have a few paragraphs to relate on the Jerry Springer visit to our shores. Wade

Here goes. On Friday, March 16, 2007, Jerry Springer came to Sarasota to address the Congregation for Humanistic Judaism on the subject of liberalism. Due to a glitch in scheduling a brief slide on humanitarian concerns about Darfur was to be shown. When Rachel and I greeted Jerry and his wife, Nicky, we explained this and he said "No problem. I care about Darfur too." We offered him the envelope containing the honorarium we give to all our speakers. Jerry declined politely, and later asked that it be given to the Committee for Darfur that would be preceeding him on the program. (I'm skipping to the last paragraph because I'm not sure I should tack this much on as a commentary. So advise me Henry or re-invite me, whatever)

LAST PARAGRAPH: One of our arguments in having Jerry speak to us was our conviction tht he is a warm and caring individual and a powerhouse intellect...that this crazy show is the way he makes a living (and becomes extremely wealthy) and does not reflect the real quality of the man. His talk to us reconfirmed that for us and for the audience of 300 who gave him four standing ovations during his remarks. In chatting with him and his wife Vicki afterwards I mentioned Henryh Raines and Alan and Jim Del Gado on American AM and how they had followed his triumphs on "Dancing with the Stars, reporting each morning and urging people to vote for Jerry. He and Cidki laughed a little and said to tell them "Thank you". Some may remember that during his run on the dancing program, his daughter got married and was movingly honored by Jerry on the show. Rachel mentoned how touching this segment had been and asked Vicki, "How is Katie doing."
Vicki said she seemed quite happy with her new large family. Her husband has a number of brothers and sisters and Katie is enjoying a lot of affection flowing.

This concludes my report. Best wishes to staff and listeners at 1490 AM. And thanks for the opportunity to tell you of our experience with a most remarkable man and an outstanding humanist.
(Henry I will be doing the full report in an E-mail. Which address should I use for you)

I don't mind Wade. I sure Ms. Smith herself would approve of your post.

As far as Joan Baez is concerned, I have nothing against her. Just that sometimes you need a little stronger wording when dealing President Junior. I think you need to do a Spinal Tap number and turn the knobs to 11 to get his attention.
