The Supporting of Troops
Is there a law in America that makes it illegal to not support our troops? I have never heard one person in my life say they are against the troops. We all support the troops (collective name for monkeys incidentally ~ I prefer soldiers) with our tax dollars whether we like it or not but why do I hear so many liberals and democrats supporting our troops when they are opposed to the war they are fighting? My guess is that the patriotic brainwashing that occurs during our schooling experience with our Hitleresque salute to the flag accompanied with the pledge of allegiance makes it almost impossible to oppose the men and women who fight for our country - no matter what the mission is. When one views the madrasas - apparently used for recruiting soldiers for Al Qaeda and the Jihad - there is an eery similarity to our children lined up, saluting the flag. I'm sorry liberals, you cannot have your cake and eat it. You cannot oppose a war and support the people who are fighting it. Our soldiers leave their families, occupy nations and as recent history tells us, torture, humilate and beat to death often innocent people. I'm sure there are many that still believe in their ever changing mission and are upstanding citizens who are humanitarians but the fact remains, we have collectively opened the gates of hell in Iraq and our soldiers - who had every chance to put down their weapons after learning of the administration's deceipt - have continued their occupation and at times brutality of the Iraqi people. The 6.000 soldiers who have gone AWOL since the invasion are my heroes. I'll support them. I will not support actively engaged soldiers in Iraq. Bring them home.

Mr. Chavez is in the news more than dubbya these days. Hugo is politely informing President Bush that his visit to central and South America is pretty fruitless given the fact that there is an overwhelming anti-US feeling in the Americas these days. It is not surprising after myriad illegal invasions, support for barbaric militia and a total disregard for human rights in the region for the past 30 years or more. Like the muslims in the mid-east, there is only so much inhumanity a people can inflict on you before you fight back with your life. So Bush will fly to countries he has perhaps never heard of and meet many leaders whos names he cannot pronounce ~ but what is new? He is the retarded face of a retarded neo-con world view that is dying, and dying because of a few spoilers we affectionatly label insurgents. You have almost got to feel sorry for George as he is flown around a foreign continent with no sycophantic audience to rely on. Though his current tour of duty takes in some friendly(ish) countries, I dare he stop off to see Morales, Ortega, Bachelet and Correa in their repective 'hoods for a cosy chat about free market reform and privatised utilities. As witnessed by Chavez on his last visit, Bush will surely leave with his tail between his legs.

THE REDIRECTION

by SEYMOUR M. HERSH

Is the Administration’s new policy benefitting our enemies in the war on terrorism?

Issue of 2007-03-05Posted 2007-02-25

A STRATEGIC SHIFT
In the past few months, as the situation in Iraq has deteriorated, the Bush Administration, in both its public diplomacy and its covert operations, has significantly shifted its Middle East strategy. The “redirection,” as some inside the White House have called the new strategy, has brought the United States closer to an open confrontation with Iran and, in parts of the region, propelled it into a widening sectarian conflict between Shiite and Sunni Muslims.

To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East. In Lebanon, the Administration has coöperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.

Greetings,

This is Robert Shuster from Retrograde Radio, publisher of four books, actor on the stage and screen, and long-time listener to American AM. My handle on this blog, is One Lone Punk. This is just the opinion of one guy in a leather jacket who like his music a little too loud and has an opinion that will be heard...good, bad or indifferent. I'm part of the Blank Generation, caught between the Yuppie Boomers who still think it's the Summer of Love and Generation X'ers that don't have a clue. I'm here to take you down the back streets and alleys of your mind to find some new ideas. Are ready...then, "hey, ho, let's go!"

Rove Said to Have Received 2003 Iranian Proposal
Gareth Porter

WASHINGTON, Feb 16 (IPS) - Karl Rove, then White House senior political advisor for President George W. Bush, received a copy of the secret Iranian proposal for negotiations with the United States from former Republican Congressman Bob Ney in early May 2003, according to an Iranian-American scholar who was then on his Congressional staff.

Ney, who pleaded guilty last year and was sentenced to prison in January for his role in the Jack Abramov lobbying scandal, was named by former aide Trita Parsi as an intermediary who took a copy of the Iranian proposal to the White House.

U.S. officials offer evidence of Iran's hand in Iraqi unrest
U.S. defense and intelligence officials today rolled out what they said was solid evidence that Iran was providing bombs to target U.S. and Iraqi troops and accused Iran's supreme leader of orchestrating the smuggling of such devices over the Iran-Iraq border.

The letters page of the Bradenton Herald gives evidence of a strong tide of negative opinion against the Bush Administration. Intelligent critiques are made by Myra Jones, Burton J. Hager, Doris Scherette and Sam Wade Sears. This has added significance because this local newspaper has long been regarded as a mouthpiece for Republican Party interests. You may access this paper on the internet at Heraldtoday.com. You may wish to congratulate the letters editor by an e mail to dklement@heraldtoday.com">. If you wish your letter to be published, include the word "letter" in your address line to get the direct attention of Dave Klement.

Keep Congress in Iraq until solution found. I note with amazement how many of our congressmen and women are making the trip to Baghdad for a quick touch-down. Some come back bragging about their third, fourth or fifth trip. If this keeps up we may need to arrange a special shuttle run from Foggy Bottom to Baghdad.

This leads me to another thought. Make it a one-way trip and let them stay in the Green Zone until they figure out how to get our troops out of there without further loss of life. They should also be required to get approximately 100,000 civilian contract empoloyees home safely. Forty thousand of these are Kellog, Brown and Root employees, so maybe Vice President Dick Cheney could help out. We should keep this in mind as we stay the course with a surge of another 20,000 troops. Just a thought.

This test post is my first effort. I wonder if we could get more data on the caller who described his trip to Mecca this morning? Could an in studio interview be scheduled for him. If you previewed it a bit, interested people could do some of their own research and pose more relevant questions for what would certainly be an informative discussion. I did not catch all of his call this morning and hope for more information from this interesting source. Wade
