Home is where the heart is. Let us consider a new policy. Every human stay in its own country unless visiting on pleasure. So the Chinese should leave Tibet and Taiwan to decide what is best for them. Let Chechnya exist by itself without massacre from Russia. America and Britain should not only withdraw from Iraq but withdraw every armed individual from every place in the world. Every American used for 'security' should come home to their family now. America should not ever be portrayed as an occupier. This is the basis of a civilized world- would you agree? If countries are taken over by despots and tyranny - like this one has - the people of that country should fight its oppressor. We have the right to remove Bush and Russia has the right to remove Putin. America has been responsible for multiple millions of the ending of life (death) since its inception. America has killed more innocent people than Hitler ever dreamed of. Will this killing machine continue to grind human flesh for decades to come or are people in this country going to grow weary of their evil exploits and demand change? Personally, I have no hope based on the people I talk to on a daily basis. Unless they are being tortured, thay don't give a crap about other humans. What a bizarre country this is.
...and a strange and Magical world it is too. I look forward to numerous posting in the days ahead from the mystical mind of Merlin. Merlin

The Ugly Brit's post brings back some not so fond memories of my Green Party dalliance. I am reminded that after good old Ralphie, embraced the Swift Boaters, took money from Republicans, and kicked the Green Party in the balls, he proclaimed that his candidacy would help the Democrats. He said this to my face in response to my question . Thereafter, the local Green party collaposed in a heap. Only a few, notably Henry Raines and Peter Burkhard, saw the handwriting on the wall and did something constructive with their time. Those who didn't get it, continue to admire Ralph to this day not knowing that good old Ralphie had sliced their heads off so neaty. To them I say. "Try shakin' yo head." Cheers from this High Octane Okie.

Counterpunch from Alan Maass No one can say that the documentary An Unreasonable Man sugarcoats the case against its subject. The film opens with Ralph Nader mumbling through a brief statement at a sparsely attended press conference during his 2004 presidential campaign. Then comes several minutes of vitriolic denunciations of Nader by three of the most unpleasant, puffed-up and dishonest fixtures of the liberal firmament--Democratic "strategist" James Carville, author Todd Gitlin and Nation columnist Eric Alterman. If you aren't familiar with their complaints on the subject, they are easily summarized: Ralph Nader, because he ran for president in 2000 as a third-party candidate against Al Gore and George Bush, is responsible everything bad that's happened during the Bush presidency. Every. Thing. "Thank you Ralph for the Iraq war, thank you Ralph for the tax cuts, thank you Ralph for the destruction of the environment, thank you Ralph for the destruction of the Constitution," Alterman spits out. "I just think the man needs to go away. I think he needs to live in a different country. He's done enough damage to this one; let him damage someone else's now." "Wicked," "megalomaniac," "politically idiotic," "deluded" and "psychologically troubled" are a few of the terms of abuse Alterman and friends lob at Nader. If only they managed a tenth of this kind of venom when talking about Republicans. But instead, their sanctimonious and humorless diatribes are directed at the man responsible for seatbelts and airbags in cars, anti-pollution laws, any number of workplace safety regulations--and the most significant left-wing electoral challenge to the two-party political system in a half-century. Fortunately, An Unreasonable Man spends the next two hours following Nader's history, and what emerges plainly from the film's interviews with supporters and detractors alike is that Nader's transformation--from a reformer working firmly within the Washington system to a renegade confronting the two parties from the outside--is wholly in keeping with the commitment to democratic principles that motivated him his whole political life. The Democrats' claim that Nader was a "spoiler" who caused Gore's defeat in 2000 is wrong for any number of reasons--not least, the fact that Gore won both the popular vote and the election in Florida that would have given him a win in the Electoral College, but the Democrats were too timid to fight the Republicans' theft of the White House. But Nader's real crime for Democrats is that his campaign represented a popular challenge to the two-party corporate-dominated system--and the deeply engrained politics of "lesser evilism" that convinces liberals and progressives, time and time again, to support a Democrat who inevitably betrays them without a second thought.
So the Prez is willing for Little Boy Gonzales, TB Rove, and Oil Tanker Condi, to testify about firing the prosecutors, but... on three conditions. Hearings are "closed door" super private. No Transcripts to be made. No Testimony under oath. Now this means see no evil, hear no evil, BUT, speak any evil you want without fear of jail time for lying. Are you laughing yet? How about this? The answer to the title question is, "Yes a Bushiebear DOES defecate in the woods or any place it wants to, including all over the American population and the rest of the world. Still shakin' the Bushes over here, Boss. Regards to all, High Octane Okie.

On Friday evening, March 16, 2007, Jerry Springer and his wife Nicky came to Sarasota to address the Congregation for Humanistic Judaism on the subject of liberalism. Due to a glitch in scheduling, a brief slide show on humanitarian concerns about Darfur was to be shown to the audience of some three hundred persons. When we greeted Jerry and his wife Nicky, we explained this. He said, "No problem. I'm concerned about Darfur too and I have something to add." Rachel offered the envelope containing the honorarium we give to our speakers. Jerry declined politely and later asked that it be given to the Committee for Darfur that preceeded him on the program. The reason we were able to attract Springer to our group was that one of our board members had been his fraternity brother at college and they became friends. The decision to invite him ws hotly debated on the board, some feeling that his notorious television show disualified Springer as a person with adequate humanist values. Rachel and I disagreed and explained that they did not understand that the real Jerry Springer was quite different than the personality he plays on his show. We knew this at first hand, having talked to him at a political meeting were he spoke a few years back. His friend, Malcolm also explained that Jerry's parents had fled the Holocaust just a few days before Hitler invaded Poland in 1939. They made it to London. Jerry was born there two years later. Thus the Springer family had much in common with of many of our group. They came to U.S. when Jerry was five and settled in New YOrk. After college at Tulane University, Jerry lived in Cincinnati where he became city councilman and later served as a very capabel Mayor of that city. The final board vote was five to four in FAVOR of having Jerry speak to us. The controversy lingers on, but most now agree that it was the right decision. Jerry gave a talk that was interrupted by four standing ovations. He melded his talk skillfully into the previous presentation. In easy conversational style with no notes, he described a humanitarian venture he and a friend had undertaken in the mid eighties. They went to Addis Ababa and equipped with two truck loads of food and medicine they drove twelve hours to the remote village. As there were no roads, they navigated the desert by means of a compass. The village was so isolated that the natives did not even know they were a part of Africa and had no understanding at all of what or where the United States was. They had no electricty or running water, nor even mirrors were known to them. The children were amazed to discover how they looked. When Polaroid pictures were shown to them with playmates they knew they were astonished. After the talk I mentioned to Jerry that my niece and nephew, would be transferred to Addis Ababa from China this summer. I will be happy to tell Darragh and Dante that Jerry Springer was there before them. Jerry's main message was that the liberal frame of values was winning it's way into acceptance by the American population. He gave examples of social programs that had been established in the middle of the last cenury, the advances in civil rights for minorities, reminding us that les than a century ago, women had not been able to vote in this country. He noted victories associated with Martin Luther King and other Civil Rights advances. He acknowledged that these struggles were not over of course, but progress could not be denied and that sustained effort is necessary to move and keep civil rights and peace making to the front of the American agenda. He spoke in a very relaxed and easy style with no notes at all. His remarks evoked standing ovatons four times durng the thirty minute talk. During the question period, a woman arose to question how he could square his infamous TV program with his obvious deep concern for human suffering and his kindness toward endangered people in the world. Jerry respondedd with a little laugh and said. "Look it's a terribe progran and probably shouldn't be on TV. I wouldn't watch it.But there is a large population that does like it...I like that because, I wouldn't be able to do a lot of the things I do. It makes a lot of money. (I would note here that a Google search yielded the information that his net worth is around six hundred MILLION dollars) I have not researched his list of chariies but I would expect they are extensive and diverse. One of our arguments in having Jerry speak to us was that he is a warm and caring individual with a quick mind and a great sense of humor...that his crazy show is the way he makes a living and does not reflect the real quality of the man. His talk confirmed this for me and for those in the audience who had been against inviting him. In chatting with him I mentioned Henry Raines, Alan Cross and Jim Del Gado, describing their steadfast support of him during the Dancing with the Stars Competition. He and Nicky laughed and said to tell them "Thank you." Some of you may remember that during his run on that program, his daughter married and was honored by Jerry on the show at that time. Rachel mentioned how moving this segment had been and asked Nicky. "How is Katie doing?" Nicky said she was quite happy with a much expanded family since her husband has several brothers and they enjoy getting together. This concludes my report. Rachel informs me that Jerry's wife is Micky, not Nicky. My hearing aid batteries were running low.

First, I want to congratulate Patti Smith for her induction into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. It’s good to see someone of her stature get into the Hall while she’s still alive to enjoy it. The punk poet laureate can not only spin a web with words, she can sing a mean rock song. Having seen her via Internet on closing night CBGB, I can vouch for her Rock ‘n Roll credibility. But what does she have to do with this blog? Plenty! Patti Smith is the kind of voice that this time needs. She’s sensitive, but tough. But most of all, age has only made her a wiser but also more dangerous threat to the status quo. But it’s more than her attitude. Just listen to her music. Go back in the day, and listen to “Piss Factory” and you SMELL that crappy factory. Or how about “Rock ‘n Roll N-r” (get the CD/Album Easter for the full name). Or when she says at the beginning of “Babelogue” (expletives are BLEEP), “I don’t BLEEP much with the past, but I BLEEP plenty with the future!” Or for some contemporary commentary (a 2004 release), “Radio Baghdad” on her Trampin’ CD. Her words are poetry with a razor sharp edge. The time for this woman is now. We need more Patti Smith and less Joan Baez. As per your recent discussion, involved withTony Blair, who contacted the Governor of Cal. regarding separate trade agreements with Britian, this smaks of attempts, of the 66 attempts, by States who sought secession from the Federal Govt. Gov. Schwartzenager has referred to Cal. as "the country of". This could be a huge problem federally. Trade agreement independent of the federal government invite questions of, how much do we need D.C. anyway. Labels: Secession
Somnambulism. What a delightful word. It is the act of sleep-walking or other such motor reactions during sleep. I start this blog with that word because it fairly accurately describes what the common American is doing every day. This phenomenen is not just an American disease but it is is far more common here bacause of a well organized education system and a media that acts as a follow up educator and mouthpiece for the government and the ruling class. As a result, we all meet people on a daily basis that hold bizarre views that are not based in reality or logic. These people lack the abilty to think for themselves or think outside of the box. Instead, they are told what to think and they parrot this information to friends and colleagues often with no supporting arguement when challenged. That is why this is the easiest country in which to sell a war. Wave the flag, create the fear and attack the enemy. Brainwashing 101. It is thus not surprising to hear that the soldiers in Iraq are given a fairly strict daily dose of Fox news to keep them thinking along the right lines. Play PBS all day and you have lost your army. But now we know the actors/politicians that sold us this last foreign invasion lied to us to get us in there, why do we believe anything they or any previous government has told us. Was Hiroshima REALLY necessary to end the war or was it already over as most Europeans believe after studying history? Did 15 muslims REALLY hijack planes (on the only day our jets were playing games in Canada - organized by Cheney) and flew them effortlessly into national landmarks? As a number of the named hijackers were interviewed shortly after, the official story is simply not credible. If you really want to learn more about the 9-11 plot, empty your mind of any preconceptions and remove that brainwashing before looking at 'Loose Change' on You Tube. The most complete deconstruction of 9-11 there is today and shreds the official story to pieces. As 9-11 was the launch pad for our double invasion, it is not hard to see why the elite needed this event. No 9-11, no second term. No 9-11, no $750bn Iraqi contract fest. No 9-11, no army big enough to carry out the job (When I hear and read about soldiers who have returned from Iraq, most of them say they signed up days after 9-11). No 9-11, no PATRIOT act and none of the siblings. Please take a look at 'Loose Change' so that you may encourage enough 'clean' Democrats to hold an independent inquiry and finally bring the terrorists to justice.

It seems like another era. In 2000, the GOP nominated George W. Bush as their presidential candidate. Even then, I was confused about the choice. Here’s was a man who had bankrupted every business he was involved in, with exception of the Texas Rangers baseball team which the taxpayers of Arlington, Texas bailed out. He had two undistinguished terms as the governor of Texas, a mediocre scholastic record and his service with the Texas Air National Guard simply couldn’t be located. So why was this man nominated? His last name was Bush; that made him a legacy. Here was a man who otherwise wouldn’t have made it past the Iowa caucuses, but because of his biological linage he was the Republican nominee for President of the United States. When I mentioned my concerns to the Republicans I knew, they shrugged it off. I guess they thought since he was from “good stock”, he would somehow pull it off. Now let’s look at 2007. Seven years of this man’s presidency, the United States is probably in the worst state of its history. No one individual has more damage to this country than George W. Bush. Or as he will be known on this blog henceforth as…JUNIOR!!! How did I come up with that? Just think of a closely held family business. The father starts the business, builds it up and then one day, the first born son walks through the door. He has no interest in running the business, nor does he have any talent. But, despite all of this, he is given control of the business simply because he is the owner’s son. Quickly, anyone with any talent leaves because they know their careers’ are forever blocked. In the meantime, the son begins to run the business into the ground. One poor decision follows another until the company, on the brink of bankruptcy, is bought out by a competitor. The employees are kicked to the curb and the incompetent son gets a cushy job in the new company. The reason for his failure, as he sees it, is that the employees weren’t loyal, the competition was too tough, etc. He blames everyone but himself. George W. Bush, the incompetent son who ran the family business into the ground…just call him Junior. It is quite stunning to witness the surprise and anger from politicians regarding the recent Walter Reed scandal. The politicians should see this as just the latest chapter in a mind-bending history of mistreatment perpetrated on our own soldiers. From balcony views of atomic explosions, LSD testing on uninformed personnel, agent pink (later known as orange thanks to PR specialists) usage in Vietnam, unknown concoctions of vaccines in Iraq, it is surprising that we have any faith in our government to do the right thing for our sons and daughters that are sent to war. This is just an abbreviated list of a grizzly litany of US government testing on its own, and sometimes, the pain really only starts when our exposed warriors return to fight for explanations and full medical coverage. Those who send them on their mission, often deny benefits and deny the suffering of the compromised combatants and use legal obfuscation to hold out on financial reparation that is so deserved by many compromised young people who had, in effect, been used as Guinea Pigs. So the future generations that will inevitably be sent on other empirical overseas endeavors had better be ready for two battles. The 'mission' that is presented by our politicians of the time and then the arduous fight with your government on your return for what is rightly yours. But beware you objectors, as you also face lenghty prison sentences should you suddenly realize that killing foreigners is not what it is cracked up to be.

Committee subpoenas former Walter Reed chief By Kelly Kennedy - Staff writerPosted : Saturday Mar 3, 2007 9:31:09 EST
The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has subpoenaed Maj. Gen. George Weightman, who was fired as head of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, after Army officials refused to allow him to testify before the committee Monday.Committee Chairman Henry Waxman and subcommittee Chairman John Tierney asked Weightman to testify about an internal memo that showed privatization of services at Walter Reed could put “patient care services
at risk of mission failure.”.... The memorandum “describes how the Army’s decision to privatize support services at Walter Reed Army Medical Center was causing an exodus of ‘highly skilled and experienced personnel,’” the committee’s letter states. “According to multiple sources, the decision to privatize support services at Walter Reed led to a precipitous drop in support personnel at Walter Reed.” The letter said Walter Reed also awarded a five-year, $120-million contract to IAP Worldwide Services, which is run by Al Neffgen, a former senior Halliburton official.Read More
